My love affair with k-entertainment

i have toyed around with many things in the past regarding topics to write, and then got  busy with our group private blog. But now that our private blog has moved to whatsapp i feel the itch to write long ass posts that is just quite not possible typing on chat on the phone, even if i have a big samsung screen...so reviving the blog again.

I have had brushes with kpop couple of times in past,..my 1st introduction was Bi (Rain), and his song Bad guy, i thought he is an awesome dancer and i loved that song too, also loved  his Sad Tango. I think this was back in 2006 or so, the other reason i knew Rain was because of Stephen Colbert and then the fact that his fans made him win the TIME poll. Later i came across another songby Se7en and his song Lalala which i loved and wished it was done in english so that i could understand it.He has an amazing voice and it helps that his looks are easy on the eyes as well. But this was a very brief encounter with Kpop and i soon forgot everything about Rain and Se7en. (i was more into japanese anime then)

Fast forward to 2009 youtube recommended a little known band called Shinee and their song Ring Ding Dong, well i saw the video and TBH burst out laughing, i couldn't take them seriously, even if they were amazing dancers ( and now im such a Taemin fan). But that video linked me to another band, TVXQ/DBSK (the original 5 member band) and their song Mirotic, and i was hooked!!. I played that song on loop, was amazed by their dancing and just started looking for more videos about the band and also had my 1st big crush on a kpop idol , Kim Jaejoong! Well there was no looking back, i was obsessed 1st it was just kpop with all the boy bands and girl bands too. Started visiting allkpop, seoulbeats crazily following every tidbit i get about my fav bands. I was sad that i got into kpop right after the breakup of DBSK , the realisation that i would never see the 5 of them live hurt, atleast i got to see JYJ last year, more on that in later posts.

Hunting for DBSK videos introduced me to k-variety, which i find hilarious even if dripping with cheese most of the time, the fact that these idols and actors are willing to humiliate themselves, or go through needless pain for a few laughs never ceases to amaze me. I cannot imagine an Indian actor doing the same.

then around 2010, i saw my very 1st kdrama, it was Boys over Flowers, at that time i thought it was a wonderful drama, 2 years and countless dramas later not so much, in fact it wont stand the drama rewatch test. But I have loved many dramas since then, disliked a few too. Now another list of websites joined my daily reading material, namely Dramabeans, Ockoala. Although i have always been a silent stalker never commenting just reading.

I also introduced a friend into kdrama who is as hooked as me and she is the inspiration behind the blog, we needed a place to discuss, obsess about all things Korea, although i have nil hopes from her in terms of how much she will contribute to this blog. But i need a place to voice my opinion as no one else in my real life shares my obsession :) (they call me crazy!)

I also draw a lot parallels between korean and indian culture, especially being south indian i find a lot of similarity, its funny how my guy cant distinguish when i speak malayalam (south indian language) or korean (i learnt a few words and sentences), i will try to cover the similarities in upcoming blogs.

Now that Gangnam style has taken over the world, im glad that kpop is being recognised and i want people to know that there are more amazing artisits from where PSY comes from, and cracktastic dramas as well. Hope i get some converts or meet some addicts on the way!

lets have a go at it again

Its funny when i read that my last post was comeback which was 2 yrs ago, where i vowed to regularly update the blog, couple of reasons y that dint happen...
i was bored with the blogger format and dabbled around with wordpress and tumblr for a while, both great in their own right, especially tumblr since posting from a phone with pictures is very easy
i started a 2nd private blog on blogger along with my college friends and that took up most of my writing and dint feel the need to manage 2 blogs....

but the new layouts and designs on blogger are great and it brings me back to my 1st blog ever, bsides hvnt used tumblr for long....
also some of my posts in the private blog caused worry to my friends so i actually had to think b4 i write which again makes the point of the blog moot since i want writing to be my outlet....
besides this blog was abt my travel and i hve only written about new york...since then i have travelled quite a lot.....new orleans, seattle, vegas, hong kong, london, paris, geneva......so many places to write about...and also so many things that i have been wanting to say and noone to say it too.............i realize that when you are with ppl they are more interested in tellin their stories than listening to urs......besides im a good listener and polite as well  so i dont mind...but i do wanna tell my stories too, in the end im so exhausted listening tht i dont wanna tlk......besides i talk for a living now........my current job as technical trainer means that i talk 9 - 5 , five days a week......you can be rest assured that i keep my mouth shut outside of work to give it some rest :)..........
o well heres to the hope tht im more regular this time.......as they say third time is the charm..

Comeback

I have neglected my blog for months ....., here i have listed my reasons for the abandonment in bullet points , and the motive behind bullet points
- who likes to read paragraphs
- the point of discussion can be lost in a paragraph
- i forget what i was writing about when i write in a long winding paragraph
- it looks neat
Did i just write bullet points citing reason why i like bullet points...so you see my 3rd point about digression...aaanyways coming back to my reasons for my neglect
- i was lazy
- trifle stuff happening in my life like getting a Masters degree, looking for a job to survive in this country, and blah blah...
- worried about what impression i am portraying in my blog and that my blog should be entertaining and informative
The last was the most important,... i had begun thinking about what I should write.......the very purpose of my blog was to put down my nonsensical thoughts which flow out from my brain nonstop....By the 3rd post, it stopped being that, i began to frame my sentences, tried to make sense in what i was writing, tried to impart knowledge about my trips... i cant do that....i realized that i had to stick to a specific schedule had to write about my new york trip before my chicago trip but after my napa valley trip....that is too much of organization for me....i dont work that way..so here are my trips and what i took away from them in one short blog

New york - Was amazing as you could see from previous my previous posts and pics...7 days was not enough,.. if i would have it my way i would move to new york.
Napa valley - memorable thanks to my best friend pallavi being there,...wines were good too
Road trip down the coast of California - Everyone should do it once in their lifetime
Chicago - Architecture tour on Lake Michigan is a must see, another trip made special by an amazing friend,....thanks BENNY!!
Lake Tahoe - Loved it, felt snow for the 1st time in my life...so pristine that makes you feel like penning down your thoughts..hence the COMEBACK

well now that i have finished discussin my trips i can go on about other stuff......in my future posts
